Stealth SMS

A UK company has launched a new service, StealthText, that provides for self-destructing SMS messages. Perfect for “mission impossible” type spies or cheating spouses.

Well, actually its not really self destructing SMS because the SMS protocol does not include such functionality. What the company appears to do is send the recipient a link to the message, which is then displayed in their phones WAP browser. After the message is viewed, the WAP page is erased so that following the link a second time will not provide access to the message. Of course, to be safe, the recipient will also likely need to clear out the cache on their WAP browser. Another issue is that using a WAP browser may, depending on the voice/data plan being subscribed to, result in additional data usage charges that may not otherwise be payable for the receipt of SMS messages.
